Wertach - 09 September

Great autumn day after a lot of rain. The water level in the Wertach was proper for fishing. I was hoping to meet miss barbel but this time I was disappointed. Nothing else then chub and a bath in the cold water.

Flyfishing in Südtirol ( Bozen )

After I had read an article about flyfishing in Südtirol in the German flyfishing magazine 'Fliegenfischen', I took the decision to drive to Bozen. I was amazed by the picture of the Runkelstein Castle and the Talfer. From Ingolstadt only 3,5 hours to drive till Bozen trough Passo del Brennero.

For fishing in Italy you need a fishing license that you can get in Bozen ( Bolzano ) and it is valid for 3 months or you can drive to Trento and you can get a lifetime license. You also have to pay extra for the fishing cards ( depends on which river you want to fish ). There are plenty of options in this area: Talfer, Eisack, Etsch, Eggentaler Bach, Passer. There are also huge marmoratas in the Eisack but I had the bad luck to find this river with a high water level and pretty dirty cause of the snowmelt in the mountains. During my stay in Südtirol I was fishing in the Talfer and Eggentaler Bach. I got precious informations about the water and the flies from Mr. Christian Marseiler. You can also get the fishing cards from his shop ( Fischer OHG Bozen Mazziniplatz 18 in Bozen). A very good option was a big dark brown colored sedge but I also caught very well with dark BH (tungsten) nymphs. The fish I caught had a regular seizes between 20-30 cm, brownies and rainbows. I also recommend you to taste the wine of the region ( St.Magdalener and Lagrein ). If you are looking for a place to stay, the best option is the Röll Guesthouse . Biggest barbel this year

I am asking every flyfisher what he is thinking if he is getting off earlier from work and outside is a great weather ? Of course 'Should I Stay Or Should I Go' flyfishing? I'm not talking about The Clash, it was only the thought that spooked into my head today, so I took my new rod and went fishing. Today an afluent of the Danube again and I caught a few chubs and the biggest barbel this year, 65 cm + and about 5lb. I could feel the pain in my arm while playing with mama barbel. The new rod was working excellent, so I hope that I'll catch more such fish. A message to everyone, practice catch and release when's about such fish!

It was time for a new project (a new rod), so I had to tell Karl about my new wish and set an appointment with him to build 'my new toy'. This time it had to be a calss 7 rod on a fast blank.
For all who doesn't now Karl Bartsch I have to tell you that he is a great fisherman and one of the best rod builders. His experience in this area is reaching many years back in the past. He started to custom fishing rods in the 80's.He was always guiding me to the best components and helped me to make my dreams come true, like this time too. His daughter Melanie stepped into the fathers footsteps and she is also very skilled and experienced in the chapter of rod building. So let me tell you about 'my brand new toy'. I was building a class 7 flyfishing rod on a 9' CTS blank, material ultra sensitive 57msi high modulus carbon, taper (fast), aktion (fast - extra fast).

Es war mal wieder Zeit für ein neues Projekt (eine neue Rute), also musste ich nur Karl über meinem Wunsch erzählen und ein Termin ausmachen um 'mein neues Spielzeug' zu bauen. Dieses mal sollte es eine Rute Klasse 7 werden auf einem schnellen Blank.Für alle die Karl Bartsch noch nicht kennen, muss ich euch sagen dass er ein ausgezeichneter Fischer und Rutenbauer ist. Seine Erfahrung in diesem Bereich hat er während vielen Jahren gesammelt. Er fing mit dem Rutenbau in den 80-ger an. Er half mir die besten Komponenten auszusuchen um meine Träume bezüglich Ruten, zu verwirklichen. Seine Tochter, Melanie, ist auch eine sehr begabte und erfahrene Rutenbauerin.Und jetzt soll ich euch über 'mein neues Spielzeug' erzählen. Ich habe eine Fliegenrute Klasse 7 auf einem 9' CTS Blank, Material ultra sensitive 57msi high modulus carbon, Taper (fast), Aktion(fast - extra fast) gebaut. Weiter lass ich die Bildern sprechen. Ich kann euch nur empfehlen Karl zu fragen wenn es um Rutenbau handelt, er hat immer die richtige Antwort für euch.
