Biggest Fish This Year...

Another fishing evening, so far nothing special till I tried a black wobbler and the first big hit in the rod. After a few minutes I realised it was a big asp. It was a great drill and the fish was about 12 lbs but I made a mistake while trying to land it and my opponent cut the line...few moments of disappointment after I took a dark classic bomber and another hit in the rod. This time it was a catfish (96 cm /11 lbs). During the same evening I caught also another asp, a little bit smaler 8 lbs. Enjoy the pictures and till next time!;)

Bill Lewis Rat-L-Trap - Anatomy of a lure

Lipless crankbaits are well known for their ability to cover a lot of water quickly and to produce fish. I was searching for one of the best crankbaits and the rattletrap was mentioned in a lot of blogs so I started to dig up the history of this lure. 

In the early years, Bill Lewis sold various lures from the back of his station wagon. 

One day in the late 60's while fishing in a channel of Toledo Bend, the rattletrap become famous and also very popular. 

To test this lure I bought on ebay a few rattletraps.

After I tuned them with new hooks and some waterproof edding, followed the test on the water.

Even the fish was not very big, the evolution of the lure in the water was excellent and I was able to make long casts, 1/2 OZ is a good weight. Rattletrap is ripping through shallow grass beds and surprising pike and perch waiting in ambush. You can fish it with a fast steady retrieve covering a lot of water or 'stop & go'.  Also a very effective methode is to fish it yo-yo, up and down,  using the rod tip to make the lure rise and fall over structure.

A Great Morning with Barbel and Pikes

It's been a while since my last post, so I thought it would be a good idea to take pictures while fishing some Lunker City shades and Doiyo crank bites. I started early in the morning and after the first rays of sunshine hit the water, I had the first bang in my rod. I was hoping for zander but soon I realised that my adversary was fighting like a submarine...indeed, a barbel. 

                                     

After a few minutes my rod bent again during that morning. It was piketime, 6 lbs / 72 cm. 

The cranks worked good aswell and caught smaller northern pike. I had a lot of fun. Enjoy the pictures!

Fly Flishing on a small creek - Schlossauer Ohe 06.05.2011

The Bavarian Forrest has a lot of good rivers and creeks for fly fishing. I was spending an evening on one of the less known streams in the area, the Schlossauer Ohe. My day was relaxing, caught many fish without to expect monsters. AFTMA 3 gear was more than enough for this fun.

Torpedo on the hook - Mühlheimer Ache 01.05.2011

First fly fishing this year. A friend told me stories about big barbels on the Mühlheimer Ache and I was starving for a topedo on the hook, so I jumped into the car and drove to Austria. The water was clear, I was sightening some rainbows from the bridge but not that was my target. Starting with a PT BD was a good idea, the nymph brought me the first fish, a nice rainbow but I wanted more. In search of barbels I found a good deep pool and also changed the nymph, put a big 1gr. lead shot on the line about 20 cm from the nymph and soon I had the first torpedo on my hook. I catched 5 barbels and a rainbow during the whole day, first 3 barbels between 4-5lbs. Enjoy the pictures.Mühlheimer Ache
